2020 saw the launch of Cairo-based label RAKETE alongside its first VA ‘Cairo Quest’, followed shortly by a well-received EP ‘Hope Amidst Despair’ in December. Now, RAKETE’s third release, ‘Ready For Nothing’ arrives by way of newcomer Postdrone, who draws upon the inherent dissonant noise of Cairene existence, and the suppression of left-field works in the face of a deeply commercialized musical landscape.
Postdrone’s debut presents a genre-less, intuition-driven exploration of electronic musical composition, soundtracking moments of personal connection through introspective rhythms and spacious fields, alongside two remixes by label-mate Hassan Abou Alam, who brings a warm club-focused dive into Postdrone’s original works.
Format: Cassette + Digital.
"Dark jungle meets noise rap. There's a sludgy texture to Postdrone's debut album. His dub-inspired productions can feel opaque, as if high viscosity levels forced them to combine into one sticky block of matter, occasionally interrupted by what sounds like electrical interference" - [Resident Advisor]
"تذهب راكيتي إلى منطقة أكثر مغامرةً وتجريبًا في إصدارها الجديد، كاشفةً عن واحد من أكثر المنتجين الصاعدين إثارة في المشهد الإلكتروني المصر" [Ma3azef]
"As the city woke from its slumber, the streets filled with sound; both beautiful and chaotic. Snippets of voices shouting in the distance blended with the harsh frequencies of far-off car alarms and beeping horns; it was a sonic snapshot of the hustle and bustle that characterised this city. For some, it brought comfort and safety, for others it drove them away in search of peace and quiet." [Ransom Note]
"One could say that this genreless (uh-oh) introduction of Postdrone is an act of musical and cultural activism, a voice for a collective front, a shared experience with similarly neutralised experimentalists and the restless youth of Cairo. There’s something intrinsically and innately personal about it, too, though, because there has to be. On a sonic level, Postdrone creates the kind of sweeping vistas of sound that can only have been born of spontaneity and intuition, the kind of rhythms that flow best out of introspection." What a wild approach to vocal sampling, DnB & broken beat experimentation. I'm not only impressed but a little concerned for my center of gravity. cherub420

Great showcase of an interesting and emerging scene. Interesting electronics from a wide array of styles and genres make for a fun listening from start to finish. Markus (Hårek)
