about

Rakete’s fourth release arrives from an ever present symbol of Cairo’s vast musical landscape, Molotof.

The Egyptian artist presents his long-awaited solo album titled “Gabal Ahmar” that paints a deeper shade of his work and for the label.

Since his early beginnings under the moniker of Hadayek 303, Molotof was the first Egyptian producer to combine the mahraganat sounds and percussive patterns with various textures of acid house and later on trap. This set in motion his ‘Molowave’ sound, which connected to the Rap institution and formed the backdrop of his success.

Sculpted out of what is considered his sonic signature to his city; gleaming, mahraganat-inspired synth lines and punchy 808s, Gabal Ahmar signals a coming of age for the young producer’s already defined stamp on electronic music in this corner of the world. His work inspired movements and sounds, pulsating through the raw streets of Cairo, and across the region.

_________________________________________________________

"Mahraganat-inspired psychedelic techno. Cairo producer Molotof has long dabbled in mahraganat, a style of fast-paced dance music that blends Egyptian folk melodies with big basslines. He even has his own genre, molowave, where the popular genre collides with acid, house and rap. For his debut solo album, however, the artist formerly known as Hadayek 303 chose a different approach. Pairing mahraganat's synth lines and drums with distorted basslines and melodic techno elements, the LP shows off Molotof's more adventurous side while continuing to fine-tune his mahraganat experimentations. "Omara" is a trance-inducing number with distorted low-ends and an atmospheric glaze. Brooding and delicate, its swirling synths, 8-bit drums and textural noises are as transportive as they are lush. Minimal and cocooning, this one should resonate among fans of Aurora Halal and Wata Igarashi." [Resident Advisor]

"Ever since its birth with ‘Cairo Quest’, Rakete has been constantly releasing sublime projects which shifts away from the norms of electronic music, opting for individualistic and original sounds and releases, which was founded by veteran DJ and producer Baher. The label's goal is to provide local talents with the means to properly release and market their projects, so every release gets the attention they deserve. After a year in hiatus, Rakete returns with another masterpiece of an album, this time with Egyptian super-producer Molotof’s ‘Gabal Ahmar’." [SceneNoise]

"Egyptian Artist Molotof Drops His Solo Techno Album ‘Gabal Ahmar’
From emerging on the scene more than three years ago to redefining one of the Middle East's most rapturous musical genres, the Egyptian artist presents his unbridled vision with his solo techno album this October." [GQ Middle East]

"You knew when you were home; as in really home. It wasn’t just the familiar faces sitting on street corners or the comforting sound of the locals selling their goods at the morning market, it was in everything, no matter how big or small. The way the ground crunched underfoot; the smell of the dust kicked up by a thousand feet that clogged up your lungs; the erratic ringing of the small shop as people entered and left in a hurry: he’d missed it all – the good and the bad – perhaps more than he’d realised." [Ransom Note, UK]
